UAE & Bahrain Launch One-Point Air Travel System
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain have taken a monumental step in air travel by launching a joint pilot project, One-Point Air Travel, designed to transform the airport experience for travellers between the two nations. Supported by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, along with Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior, this initiative marks the beginning of a new era in cross-border air travel. This pilot project aims to streamline airport processes, significantly reducing queues, and introducing a simpler, faster travel experience for passengers.
How the One-Point Air Travel System Works
Under this innovative approach, eligible passengers travelling between the UAE and Bahrain will complete their immigration, security checks, and other clearance requirements at their departure airport, before boarding the flight. This process eliminates the need for repeated border procedures upon arrival at their destination, allowing travellers to deplane in Bahrain or the UAE and move through airports like they would on domestic flights. Currently, the pilot is operational at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain International Airport, facilitating a smoother, more efficient travel experience for all participants.
Leveraging Technology: Digital and Biometric Verification
Central to the success of the One-Point Air Travel initiative is the use of cutting-edge digital systems and biometric technology. Electronic connectivity and real-time data exchange between border authorities in both countries enable seamless travel. Passengers are authenticated through biometric verification at the departure airport, and this data is instantly shared, ensuring that once cleared, passengers can bypass further checks at their destination airport. This integration of advanced technologies aims to maintain the highest levels of security while facilitating quicker movement through borders.
