England Launches Free Bus Travel for Lake District Families
England will pay for bus travel for children 5-15 years old on passenger routes within the Lake District in Cumbria during August 2026. Bus drivers will need to provide free travel tickets to children. Adults will still need to pay. Long distance coach services, school bus services and some services will continue to have a charge. This Family Travel program will connect families to more villages, lakes, hiking trails, and other local tourist sites. It should also be noted that, temporarily, the UK will provide Value Added Tax (VAT) relief for qualifying family activities and meals. Families need to confirm the routes, times, and any charges before going because savings and the seats available could vary.
