A joint initiative by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Qatar Tourism aims to simplify licensing procedures and stimulate the tourism sector. In a bid to boost the nation’s hospitality and tourism sectors, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Qatar Tourism have launched an initiative to streamline licensing procedures for tourism establishments and businesses. The initiative includes elements like seasonal discounts, festival-specific discounts, promotional offers, and special deals, all designed to stimulate the tourism sector. The key focus is on simplifying and speeding up ‘Qualitative Licensing Services’ making it easier to overcome challenges faced when applying for promotional and price reduction licenses, as well as procedures for festival, event and exhibition licensing. Hassan Sultan Al-Ghanim, Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said: “This was introduced to facilitate the procedures for obtaining specific licenses for tourism and hospitality establishments, where obtaining the license would take one business day, with the prerequisite that all terms and conditions are met and the required documents submitted, this would have a direct positive impact on the entire sector’s value chain. Qatar tourism sector has been identified as one of the key sectors in the country’s economy, which contributes to attracting investments and increasing the revenues. “This initiative comes within the framework of the efforts of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to develop the business environment and facilitate business ventures in the country, and to establish an encouraging investment environment for entrepreneurs and investors. It is important to shed light on the Ministry’s keenness to consolidate collaborations with various relevant government entities with the aim to facilitate and streamline procedures for granting the necessary approvals and licenses to establish a business.” An integral part of the initiative is the issuance of a single-fee annual license that includes all offers and discounts provided by hotels, as announced through their marketing plans. The application process for the ‘single- license’ will be overseen by Visit Qatar, the main branch of Qatar Tourism, thus ensuring streamlined procedures and enhanced inter-sector cooperation. Omar Al Jaber, Acting Chief of the Tourism Development Sector at Qatar Tourism, said: “The new licensing initiative by Qatar Tourism and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry aims to enhance tourism offerings across relevant businesses and provide necessary protection for the activities of these establishments. Thus, providing the sector the flexibility to intensify its efforts by launching promotional campaigns that revive their work as well as provide tourists opportunities to enjoy attractive offerings, enhancing visitors’ experience. This initiative reflects Qatar Tourism’s commitment to develop and expand the reach of the tourism sector in the country, by including more tourism and hospitality businesses and focus on being comprehensive with its licensing protocol and elevating the efficacy and transparency of key services.”

- travel and tour world
Generali Global Assistance (GGA) has unveiled the results from U.S. participants in the 2024 Holiday Barometer, an annual survey sponsored by its parent company, Europ Assistance, and conducted by Ipsos, a consumer research firm. The survey, carried out between March 27 and April 22, 2024, included respondents from 21 countries. The findings, based on 1,000 residents from each country, indicate that summer travel is nearing pre-pandemic levels. Among the U.S. travelers surveyed, 57% plan to travel this summer. Notably, these travelers are delaying their bookings to keep their options open, with only 39% having already booked their trips. Chris Carnicelli, CEO of Generali Global Assistance, commented on the findings, “Every year this survey gives us a window into the minds of Americans as they make their summer travel decisions. The rise of ‘slow travel’ is an interesting trend as people are wanting more authentic experiences over the traditional tourism hot spots. There are plenty of places throughout the United States where Americans can take full advantage of a slower pace of travel. While those surveyed said they preferred to travel within the US, it’s important to remember that Americans can experience almost any type of vacation they desire from sunbathing on pristine beaches to taking a challenging climb up a mountain or cooking classes in a major metropolis – all without needing their passport.” Upcoming Travel Plans 57% of U.S. respondents intend to travel between June and September, aligning with the North American summer vacation season. Travel budgets among Americans are increasing, with an average planned expenditure of $4,199, the second highest globally, trailing only the Swiss. Nearly 70% of Americans planning summer trips reported making their arrangements at least two months in advance. A majority of Americans prefer domestic travel, with 56% favoring vacations within the United States and only 21% preferring international destinations. Beach vacations remain popular among U.S. travelers (49%), although city trips (43%) and tour-style trips (30%) are also significant, with tour-style trips seeing an 11% year-over-year increase. Travel Trends This year’s survey delved into the types of travel Americans prefer. The top trends are “Slow Travel” and visiting less traditionally touristy destinations. These trends are observed across all surveyed regions. “Slow Travel” emphasizes exploring local history and culture while supporting environmental sustainability. Travel Concerns Inflation is the primary concern for travelers globally, with 87% of U.S. travelers citing it as a top worry. Additionally, COVID-19 and global conflicts are significant concerns for 60% of American travelers, influencing their travel decisions. Moreover, 42% of Americans surveyed plan to purchase travel protection for their summer vacations. Survey Methodology The 2024 Holiday Barometer, conducted by Europ Assistance and Ipsos, surveyed 1,000 consumers aged 18 and older in 21 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia. Char Dham update: Over 650 pilgrims turned away at Badrinath for lack of registration
- May 29,2024
- Times Travel
More than 650 pilgrims were turned back on their journey to Badrinath due to missing the mandatory registration, according to officials. This move comes as part of the authorities' efforts to manage the flow of pilgrims to the Char Dham and prevent the chaos witnessed earlier in the yatra season. At the Gauchar checkpoint, officials confirmed that over 650 unregistered pilgrims were denied entry, along with 120 vehicles transporting them. The Chamoli SSP office reported that five vehicle operators were penalised for bringing unregistered pilgrims to the holy site. Authorities have emphasised the importance of completing the mandatory registration to avoid such inconveniences. The registration system is strictly enforced to ensure smooth and orderly pilgrimages. Pilgrims are urged to register online at https://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in and to plan their visit for the registered date only. The mandatory registration system aims to manage the high volume of visitors, preventing overcrowding and ensuring a safer, more comfortable experience for all. Approximately 20,000 pilgrims visit Badrinath daily. In response to the increasing number of pilgrims, the Uttarakhand government has extended the ban on "VIP Darshan" until May 31, 2024. This decision, announced by Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, is intended to improve crowd management during the peak yatra season. As the pilgrimage season progresses, officials continue to monitor and adapt their strategies to handle the large influx of devotees efficiently. The mandatory registration is a critical component of these efforts, ensuring a structured and safer pilgrimage experience for all participants. Badrinath is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Hinduism. Nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas at an elevation of approximately 3,300 metres (10,827 feet), it is part of the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit, which also includes Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. The main attraction is the Badrinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, which draws thousands of devotees annually. The temple's striking architecture and the backdrop of the Neelkanth Peak make it a significant spiritual and scenic destination. Badrinath is not only a place of worship but also a site of immense natural beauty, with the Alaknanda River flowing by and numerous hot springs and trekking routes nearby, offering a unique blend of spiritual solace and adventure.
