Sri Lanka’s Tourism Hits New Peak with 233,087 Visitor Arrivals

Sri Lanka celebrated a groundbreaking milestone in December 2024, as the island welcomed 233,087 tourists between December 1st and 29th. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), this impressive surge highlights the country’s rising prominence as a global travel destination, closing the year on a high note of sustained growth in the tourism sector. India took the lead as the largest source market, accounting for 21.8% of December’s arrivals. The Russian Federation followed with 13.7%, while the United Kingdom contributed 7.5%. Other key markets included Germany, Australia, and China, emphasizing Sri Lanka’s broad appeal to travelers from across the globe. December’s record-breaking figures not only marked the highest monthly arrivals in 2024 but also brought the total annual tourist count to over 2 million. Factors fueling this success include enhanced flight connectivity, targeted promotional campaigns, and the country’s unmatched combination of cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and adventure opportunities. Tourism stakeholders in Sri Lanka are optimistic about continuing this upward trajectory into 2025.
