Almaty Became a Must-Visit Destination in 2024 Attracting over half million Tourists and Securing Global Spotlight for 2025
Almaty attracted over half a million tourists in 2024, earning global recognition and securing its place as a top travel destination for 2025. In 2024, Almaty emerged as Kazakhstan’s most visited region by international travelers, as reported by the Kazakh Tourism national company. The analysis was based on data from the eQonaq information system, which monitors tourist activity and migration control across the country.
The eQonaq system recorded 534,340 foreign visitors staying in Almaty accommodations, marking an increase of around 70,000 compared to the previous year. This surge solidifies Almaty’s position as a premier travel destination in the region. Adding to its appeal, CNN Travel has ranked Almaty among the top 25 global destinations to visit in 2025, further enhancing its international profile.
Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital, secured the second spot, welcoming 269,320 international visitors to its registered accommodations in 2024. Meanwhile, the Almaty Region witnessed a remarkable 59% growth in foreign arrivals, reaching 134,763 tourists. The cities of Atyrau and the Mangystau Region followed in fourth and fifth positions, attracting 106,974 and 71,462 foreign tourists, respectively.
